Hebrew School Curriculum Update

This school year we are continuing with the Mitkadem program. By way of background, this Hebrew curriculum was designed by Cheri Ellowitz Silver, M.A.J.E., who is the author of Mitkadem and currently serves as Educator at Congregation Ner Tamid of the South Bay in Rancho Palos Verdes, California. This program allows the students to work at their own pace. There are 23 ramot, or levels, allowing the students may work independently, with another student at a similar level, or with another student in a "tutorial" relationship. At Temple Beth HaSholom, the students are divided into two groups. The Aleph group is the younger children and the Bet group is the older students. The Mitkadem program is also based on learning roots and words that are used in the prayers, so the students can have an understanding of some words commonly used in prayers at services. More information about the Mitkadem program can be found on the Union for Reform Judaism web page, http://urj.org.
